Times have changed and what was considered acceptable in the past, or at least tolerated without question, is now rightfully prosecuted. Most of the accusers are women, although men have also stepped forward as victims. Homosexuality, a subject that was taboo years ago, is now discussed openly without shame, and men stand on an equal footing to women as accusers. Powerful people can be brought to justice after believing themselves to be beyond reproach. However, we are in danger of ignoring justice and allowing a trial by media that hears only one side of a case and ignores any questions of doubt. It's now possible for anyone to accuse and they are believed without proof. When that happens, it becomes dangerous for the innocent.
Harvey Weinstein has become the tip of an iceberg as more and more accusations come to light. Most are historical and will be difficult to prove, but will, at the very least, taint the person concerned. As well as those in the film industry, politicians have been named and I'm sure it won't stop there; we await the findings about the accusations thrown at Donald Trump.
There will be some, perhaps a small minority, who, at the time, used their sexual attributes to influence a powerful decision-maker for their own gain. Now they can see an advantage in turning the tables, so make the story public and exploit their claims through the media. Others will have dismissed a sexual encounter as unwanted but insignificant in their career and now realise that it shouldn't have happened. If an individual was truly abused and chose not to report it at the time, they should ask themselves why.
This is a difficult subject to consider as there are so many permutations. What's blatantly clear is that it's wrong to abuse others and right that the guilty should be prosecuted and sentenced. But it's also wrong when one only needs to name and shame without proof to ruin another person's career or social standing.
